Abstract

Literature learning in schools still faced the problem of low integration of character education and limited utilization of digital media that suited the characteristics of digital generation students. In addition, local wisdom values in traditional literary works had not been optimally utilized as contextual and meaningful learning resources. This study aimed to develop digital comic-based fantasy story teaching materials that integrated character values through adaptations of folk tales as an effort to strengthen character education. This study involved four expert validators consisting of material, language, presentation, and graphics experts. Data were collected using a validation sheet that assessed the appropriateness of content, language, presentation, and visual aspects. Data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively using a Likert scale to determine the level of product validity, as well as qualitatively to formulate suggestions for improvement. The results of the study indicated that the developed digital comic teaching materials were categorized as very valid and were able to represent key character values, such as honesty, responsibility, hard work, social awareness, religiosity, and respect for parents. Thus, digital comics based on folk tale adaptations had implications as an alternative and innovative teaching material that was effective in supporting character education and enhancing the relevance of literature learning in the digital era.
