Abstract

In the field, densities are more variable and often lower due to conditions that are difficult to control. Factors influencing these density differences include test conditions and compaction method. In the laboratory, variables such as temperature, humidity and materials are more controlled, and standard methods such as ASTM and SNI are used. Meanwhile, in the field, compaction uses heavy equipment which requires operator skill to achieve optimal results. This research aims to compare the density of AC-WC asphalt mixtures in the field and laboratory, as well as identifying factors that influence differences in density. The method used is comparative causal analysis with primary data in the form of measuring the density of the asphalt mixture in the laboratory and secondary data obtained from related agencies for density in the field. The research results show that the density of the asphalt mixture in the laboratory tends to be higher and more consistent than in the field, because conditions in the laboratory are more controlled and compaction is carried out uniformly. Comparison of the density of the AC-WC asphalt mixture in the field and laboratory shows differences, where the density in the laboratory has a higher density level compared to that in the field where the density level in the field is lower.
