Abstract

Seismic safety is an essential consideration in the assessment and redesign of multi-story buildings in Indonesia because structural systems must accommodate earthquake-induced lateral forces while maintaining adequate strength and serviceability. Griya Kos Diponegoro in Semarang is a four-story reinforced-concrete residential building constructed in 2023 and originally designed according to SNI 1726:2012, necessitating reassessment based on the updated SNI 1726:2019 provisions. This study aims to evaluate the seismic response and redesign the upper structural components consisting of reinforced-concrete beams, columns, and slabs. A quantitative structural analysis approach was applied through three-dimensional modeling in ETABS, incorporating response spectrum and equivalent static analyses based on SNI 1726:2019, while reinforced-concrete design followed SNI 2847:2019 and gravity loading followed SNI 1727:2020. The building was modeled using a Special Moment Resisting Frame system on a soft-soil site classified as SE. Modal analysis using 15 modes achieved 100% combined mass participation in both principal horizontal directions, with the first two modes dominated by translational behavior and the third mode by rotational behavior. The design period adopted in the period-check procedure was 0.521 s. Story-drift evaluation indicated that the maximum drift occurred at Floor 2, reaching 29.420 mm in X and 29.348 mm in Y, below the permissible limit of 53.846 mm. The redesign produced member configurations for beams, columns, and slabs that satisfied the evaluated design requirements.
