Abstract

As the number of students, staff, and campus operational activities continues to increase, the demand for clean water in higher education institutions has also risen, creating challenges in sustainable resource management. The high dependence on conventional water sources has led to various environmental problems, such as the depletion of groundwater availability and the increasing risk of water crises. One alternative that can be implemented to support water resource conservation is the rainwater harvesting system. This study aims to analyze the business model for the implementation of rainwater harvesting in higher education institutions using the Business Model Canvas (BMC) approach and sustainable business model principles. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method conducted at Universitas Dhyana Pura. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, discussions, and literature studies. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of rainwater harvesting has significant potential to support sustainability through the efficient use of groundwater, reduction of long-term operational costs, and increased environmental awareness within higher education institutions. The business model analysis shows that successful implementation is not only influenced by technical aspects but also depends on institutional support, the active involvement of the academic community, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Therefore, the integration of the rainwater harvesting system into institutional strategies and governance becomes an important factor in ensuring the long-term sustainability of the program.
