Abstract

The global energy crisis, still heavily reliant on fossil fuels, drives the need for innovations in renewable energy utilization, particularly solar energy. Indonesia, with abundant solar energy potential, has a significant opportunity to enhance solar energy usage through solar tracking technology. This study aims to design and test an Arduino-based double axis solar tracker system that improves solar energy absorption efficiency. The system uses an Arduino Mega 2560 as the main controller, equipped with Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) sensors and other supporting sensors to optimize the solar panel’s position. Testing was conducted under three weather conditions: sunny, partly cloudy, and overcast, to compare the performance of the double axis system with single axis and fixed panels. The results indicate that the double axis solar tracker system produced the highest power output under all weather conditions, especially on sunny days, with an increase in power efficiency of up to 30-35% compared to fixed panels. This technology provides an efficient and economical solution for Indonesia to maximize solar energy utilization, supporting national renewable energy targets.

Abstract

As the population grows and energy demands increase, various resources are needed, including human resources, fossil-based natural resources, and renewable energy sources. An inverter is a crucial device in electrical power generation systems, functioning to convert direct current (DC) voltage into alternating current (AC) voltage in optimizing the performance of the inverter. An efficient switching method can reduce switching losses, minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI), allow the use of smaller filters, and result in lower Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). This research focuses on the simulation of a single-phase inverter employing the unipolar Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) technique. The working principle of SPWM involves comparing a reference waveform with a carrier waveform using a comparator in order to generate an ideal sinusoidal output., it was found that this switching technique is capable of producing an output waveform that closely resembles a sinusoidal wave. Without the use of an LC filter, the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) was relatively high, reaching 120.27% at a frequency of 50 Hz. However, after applying an LC filter in a series-parallel configuration, the THD was successfully reduced to 14.78% at a frequency of 55 Hz. This demonstrates that the combination of the unipolar SPWM method and an LC filter is effective in improving the quality of the inverter output power and significantly reducing harmonic distortion.

Abstract

This study evaluates the performance of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms using conventional and modified Perturb and Observe (P&O) methods in photovoltaic systems. Tests were conducted across irradiance levels of 200-600 W/m². Results demonstrate that the modified P&O method significantly reduces oscillations and improves convergence speed compared to the conventional approach. At 600 W/m² irradiance, the modified method achieves MPP in 325 ms with 9.85 W power output, while the conventional method requires 345 ms, producing 8.775 W. Increased irradiance correlates positively with power output and negatively with MPP tracking time. This research validates the effectiveness of the modified P&O method in enhancing efficiency and stability of MPPT systems in photovoltaic applications

Abstract

The gradual and precise addition of solution is a critical factor in the synthesis of core–shell quantum dots. Manual dripping poses a risk of inaccuracy in both volume and timing, thus an automated system capable of operating stably and programmatically is required. This research aims to design and develop an automatic solution dropping system based on an Arduino Uno microcontroller and a servo motor combined with gear and rack mechanisms. The system is designed to control both the volume and timing of the droplets, with selectable intervals tailored to the synthesis requirements. The main components used include a syringe, servo motor, gears and rack gear as mechanical actuators, along with an LCD and buzzer as user interface and status indicators. Test results show that the system operates automatically according to the set time and can deliver solution droplets with consistent volume. This device is expected to enhance the synthesis process of quantum dots by increasing efficiency, precision, and minimizing manual intervention

Abstract

The demand for electrical energy continues to increase and has become an essential part of daily human activities. To support the use of environmentally friendly energy, the utilization of renewable energy sources such as solar panels is increasingly prioritized. However, since solar panels generate only direct current (DC), a device is needed to convert it into alternating current (AC) to ensure compatibility with most household appliances. Inverters serve as the primary solution for this conversion process. Although full-bridge inverters are commonly used, they still produce a relatively high level of harmonic distortion. Therefore, the multilevel inverter approach is considered more effective in improving the quality of the output voltage. This study proposes the design and implementation of a single-phase 7-level inverter using a cascaded H-bridge topology. This topology was chosen due to its modular structure, which allows for the generation of output waveforms that closely resemble a sinusoidal shape. The system is controlled by an Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller using a PWM switching technique. Testing was conducted after completing simulation stages using MATLAB/Simulink and building the hardware prototype. Based on the experimental results, the inverter successfully produced stepped waveforms with relatively low harmonic distortion levels, with a current THD of 8.33% and a voltage THD of 23.95%. The system's stable performance indicates that this design has potential for application in small scale renewable energy systems, such as residential solar power generation

Abstract

This research aims to develop an automation system in the synthesis process of core-shell quantum dots using the Arduino-based hot injection method. The system is designed to resemble an automatic syringe pump consisting of an Arduino UNO microcontroller, servo motor, LCD, and toggle switch to control the rate of solution injection precisely within a certain time range. The servo motor regulates the movement of the syringe to produce drops of solution according to the selected duration, ranging from 1 to 24 hours. The test results show that the system can execute 21 servo rotations forward at an angle of 22° per rotation and 4 backward at an angle of 115° per rotation, with high accuracy and time stability. The time display on the LCD showed good agreement with the real time, proving the effectiveness of the monitoring and control system. The system was able to improve the efficiency and precision of the QD synthesis process compared to the manual method, and showed great potential in automation applications in the field of materials chemistry

Abstract

The use of solar panels as an alternative energy source is increasingly widespread due to their environmentally friendly nature. However, their efficiency is highly influenced by external factors such as temperature and light intensity. Therefore, a monitoring system capable of observing panel performance in real-time is required. This study designs and develops a solar panel simulator monitoring system based on the Arduino Uno microcontroller and a Visual Basic interface, which displays sensor data in both graphical and tabular forms. The sensors used include DHT22 (temperature), BH1750 (light intensity and irradiation), ACS712 (current), and a voltage divider (voltage). The system is tested using four solar panel circuit configurations: series, parallel, series-parallel, and total cross tied (TCT). The test results show that each configuration is highly dependent on light intensity in relation to the current and voltage produced. The data visualization using Visual Basic functions optimally and is consistent with measurement results, indicating that this system is effective for monitoring and analyzing the performance of solar panels under simulated conditions

Abstract

A three-phase inverter is a power conversion device that converts direct current (DC) to three-phase alternating current (AC). Inverter performance is significantly influenced by the switching angle control method used. This study analyzed three-phase inverters with varying switching angles of 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°, 120°, 135°, 150°, and 180°. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of varying the switching angle on the output waveform produced by the three-phase inverter. Testing was conducted by observing the gate driver output signal and the phase-to-phase and phase-neutral voltage waveforms using an oscilloscope. The results showed that changes in the switching angle affected the voltage pulse width and the symmetry of the output waveform. The higher the level, the closer it became to a sinusoidal shape. This test used two loads: the resistive load produced a relatively stable waveform, while the incandescent lamp load experienced distortion due to the inductive nature of the filament. The conclusion of this study is that selecting the right switching angle can improve the power quality and efficiency of the inverter performance according to application needs.
