Abstract

Increasing the cultivation of hydroponic plants presents challenges, particularly in monitoring water pH and controlling temperature and humidity in hydroponic farming, which are often neglected. The lack of proper monitoring can significantly impact hydroponic plant growth. This issue arises due to the reliance on manual checks, which prevents real-time and efficient monitoring. This research employs a comparative method to analyze water pH levels using both a water pH sensor and a pH meter. For temperature and humidity monitoring in the hydroponic plant area, the study compares the readings of the DHT22 sensor with online weather data, both monitored anytime via a web server. Temperature and humidity data can be accessed at any time, but the focus of comparison is on daytime, as temperature and humidity fluctuations are more drastic, with temperatures exceeding 30°C. The purpose of this test is to determine the water pH level as well as the temperature and humidity conditions suitable for hydroponic farming. Based on observations, the developed system enables real-time monitoring via a web server, demonstrating good performance and meeting efficiency objectives in automated temperature and humidity control. The implementation of this system is expected to be expanded in the future, providing a viable solution for users and enhancing process efficiency in related fields

Abstract

Accidents at railroad crossings still frequently occur due to the negligence of road users and the lack of an optimal security system. This study aims to design a prototype of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based level crossing monitoring and control system to improve traffic safety. This system uses an ESP32 microcontroller as the control center, an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor to detect the arrival of the train, a servo motor as a driver for the automatic barrier gate, and Blynk IoT as a remote monitoring and control platform. The research method used is the waterfall model, which includes the stages of needs analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. The results of the study show that the developed system can work automatically in detecting train arrivals, displaying crossing status on a 16x2 LCD, and providing warnings via LED indicators and buzzers. In addition, users can control the gate manually through a Blynk-based application. Based on the tests conducted, the system has a good level of accuracy in detecting the presence of trains and responding to commands from the application with a response time of less than 1 second. Thus, this prototype is expected to be an innovative solution to improve safety at railroad crossings and reduce the risk of accidents due to human error

Abstract

DC motor is one of the important components in various industrial and automation applications due to its ability to provide precise speed control. This research aims to design and implement a DC motor speed control system using a four-quadrant rectifier based on the Internet of Things (IoT). This system allows the DC motor to operate in four quadrants, namely forward motor, reverse motor, forward regenerative, and reverse regenerative, thus providing flexibility and efficiency in controlling speed and rotation direction. By utilizing IoT technology, motor control can be done wirelessly through web-based applications or mobile devices, enabling real-time remote monitoring and control. The test results show that the system is able to accurately control the speed of a DC motor according to a given reference value, and can adapt to changes in load. The use of this IoT-based four-quadrant rectifier is expected to improve energy efficiency, operational flexibility, and ease of integration in modern automation systems.

Abstract

Three-phase induction motors are critical components in various industrial applications, driving essential machinery and production processes. Ensuring optimal motor performance requires accurate monitoring of electrical parameters such as current and voltage. Conventional monitoring systems are often costly, inflexible, and lack real-time accessibility. This research proposes the design and implementation of a real-time current and voltage monitoring system for three-phase induction motors using the PZEM004T sensor integrated with the ESP8266 microcontroller and the Blynk IoT platform. The system employs three PZEM004T modules, each dedicated to one phase (R, S, T), to collect electrical data. These values are transmitted wirelessly via Wi-Fi and visualized on both a TFT LCD and the Blynk mobile application. Experimental results demonstrate that the system effectively captures and displays voltage and current values with high accuracy. The measurements for each phase showed consistent readings compared to standard instruments, with total power consumption measured at 1381.66 W and total current at 5.88 A. The system provides real-time data visualization and remote accessibility, enabling users to monitor motor status conveniently and take proactive measures against potential electrical faults. Furthermore, the integration of low-cost components and an open-source platform makes this system a practical solution for industrial environments seeking to enhance operational efficiency and reliability. This research highlights the potential of IoT-based monitoring systems in industrial motor applications and suggests that real-time visibility into motor performance can significantly improve energy management and preventive maintenance strategies.

Abstract

The induction motor is one of the most widely used types of electric motors in the industrial sector due to its simple structure and high reliability. However, speed control of induction motors often requires an advanced control system to ensure both efficiency and flexibility. This final project presents the design and implementation of a three-phase induction motor control system using the scalar control method (V/f), integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The system enables users to monitor and control the motor’s frequency and direction of rotation in real-time through a web-based interface developed using Node-RED. The system design involves the integration of hardware components, including a three-phase induction motor, an Omron 3G3JX-A Variable Speed Drive (VSD), and an Omron CP2E-N Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), which communicate using the Modbus RTU protocol. The PLC is programmed using CX-Programmer to implement the appropriate control logic, while the IoT interface enables users to send commands and monitor operational data remotely. Test results indicate that the system is capable of regulating motor speed linearly in response to input frequency without causing current surges, and it provides accurate, real-time motor parameter data through the dashboard interface.

Abstract

Solar energy is a promising renewable energy source that offers solutions to the energy crisis and carbon emission reduction, but the power output generated by solar panels is fluctuating due to changes in light intensity and ambient temperature. This study develops a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control system using the Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) method to optimize the power output of solar panels. The system design includes the use of a boost converter as a voltage regulator and an Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller as the control center, with the SMC algorithm developed in Simulink MATLAB to generate a PWM signal that controls the duty cycle. Test results show that the SMC algorithm can achieve a maximum power point of 30 watts in 20 seconds, faster and more efficient than the Perturb and Observe (P&O) method, which only reaches 25 watts in 30 seconds, and demonstrates lower and more stable power oscillations. The boost converter was also proven effective in increasing the output voltage of the solar panel. Thus, the SMC-based MPPT system demonstrates superior performance in efficiency and adaptability to dynamic environmental conditions, making it suitable for application in the development of more reliable solar energy systems

Abstract

This study designs and implements a Multi Input Boost Converter (MIBC) to improve the efficiency and stability of renewable energy systems. The device combines two DC voltage sources, such as solar panels and wind turbines, into a higher and more stable output voltage. The system is controlled by an Arduino Mega 2560 programmed via MATLAB Simulink to generate Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signals, which are amplified by an IR2110 gate driver before activating the MOSFET. Two 12 V DC inputs are processed through the boost converter circuit to produce voltages of up to 24 V DC. An ACS712 current sensor and a voltage sensor are used as feedback for real-time duty cycle adjustment. The research process includes block diagram design, circuit construction, hardware assembly, and microcontroller programming. Testing on 50 Ω and 110 Ω loads shows that the MIBC can efficiently combine two power sources, maintain voltage stability, and minimize power losses. This design enhances the reliability and flexibility of hybrid power generation systems and has the potential to serve as a reference for developing multi-input power conversion in small to medium-scale renewable energy applications.

Abstract

The design and implementation of a Multi Input Boost Converter (MIBC) based on Proportional-Integral (PI) control is discussed in this study to ensure output voltage stability in the face of load variations and input source fluctuations. Two DC input sources are integrated into the system architecture to produce a larger and more consistent output voltage. An Arduino Mega 2560 is used to create the PI controller, which is programmed using MATLAB/Simulink and employs PWM signal duty cycle settings to control the MOSFET in the converter circuit. Variability in input, load, and voltage setpoint are factors that influence experimental results. By comparing experimental results with a system without control, it is proven that PI control can eliminate overshoot and voltage ripple, reduce steady-state error, and maintain the output voltage close to the reference value. Additionally, in various test configurations, the system demonstrates good stability and fast response time. Therefore, MIBC with PI control can be used to improve the efficiency and reliability of multi-input power conversion, which can be beneficial for renewable energy systems requiring a stable DC power source

Abstract

Hydrant pump systems at PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia Padang currently employ conventional relay-based controls with limitations in real-time visualization, historical data recording, and remote monitoring capabilities. This research designs a control and monitoring system based on PLC PACSystems RX3i and HMI CIMPLICITY to enhance fire protection system reliability. The Engineering Design Process methodology encompasses system requirement observation, hardware wiring diagram design, and PLC programming using Function Block Diagram and Ladder Diagram according to IEC 61131-3 standard [1]. HMI was designed using CIMPLICITY software featuring real-time monitoring, manual/automatic control modes, alarm and event viewer, and trending displays for pressure, level, and flow data. The system controls four pumps: jockey pump, electric pump, diesel pump, and supply pump, implementing pressure-based pump sequencing and level-based control logic according to NFPA 20 requirements [2]. Laboratory testing employed combined methods of 4-20 mA current injection with Fluke 715 calibrator [3], direct testing with actual devices, and digital signal simulation. Results demonstrate successful pump operation according to setpoints with maximum reading errors of 0.1% for pressure, 0.06% for level, and 0.04% for flow. All control functions for automatic mode, manual mode, alarms, trip reset, and VFD frequency regulation operate according to established requirements.
