Abstract

This study was motivated by differences in students’ creative thinking abilities when solving open-ended problems based on their learning styles. The study aimed to describe students’ creative thinking abilities in solving open-ended problems on sequences and series based on visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed. A learning style questionnaire was administered to 30 students of class XI.1, and six students were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of two visual, two auditory, and two kinesthetic learners. Data were collected through a learning style questionnaire, a creative thinking ability test, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with method triangulation used to establish data validity. The results showed that the visual subjects demonstrated good performance in the fluency and flexibility indicators, while some also demonstrated novelty, placing them in the creative to highly creative categories. The auditory subjects tended to fulfill the fluency indicator and were categorized as less creative, whereas the kinesthetic subjects were unable to fulfill all three indicators simultaneously and were categorized as less creative to uncreative. In conclusion, the subjects demonstrated different characteristics of creative thinking abilities across learning styles.
