Abstract

This research aims to analyze the forms of honesty values in the novel Kembara Rindu by Habiburrahman El Shirazy. The primary problem focusing this research is how the characters' morals are constructed through descriptive narratives, inter-character dialogues, internal and external conflicts, and the choices of actions presented by the author within the plot. The focus is directed toward the manifestation of the characters' honesty when confronted with personal responsibilities, social mandates, and the temptation to manipulate facts for self-interest. The research method employed is qualitative descriptive with content analysis techniques. The research results indicate that the value of honesty in this novel is manifested in three primary forms: (1) honesty in determination and decision-making for the common good, (2) honesty in speech by not lying, and (3) honesty in the alignment between inner convictions and actual deeds. These findings affirm that the value of honesty serves as the primary foundation for building social trust and individual moral resilience. Furthermore, this study proves that literary works can serve as effective educational instruments to instill character values of honesty for students within the educational environment.
