Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of Rewards on students' learning motivation, the influence of Punishments on students' learning motivation, and the simultaneous influence of Rewards and Punishments on the learning motivation of junior high school students in the Suwawa region. This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population consisted of all junior high school students in the Suwawa region, including students from SMP Negeri 1 Suwawa, SMP Negeri 1 Suwawa Tengah, SMP Negeri 2 Suwawa, and SMP Negeri 1 Suwawa Timur. The sample was selected using a random sampling method and comprised 74 students. The study instrument was a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. The findings revealed that Rewards had a positive and significant influence on students' learning motivation. Likewise, Punishments had a positive, significant influence on students' learning motivation. Furthermore, Rewards and Punishments simultaneously exerted a positive and significant influence on the learning motivation of junior high school students in the Suwawa region. The Reward and Punishment variables accounted for 57.1% of students' learning motivation, while the remaining 42.9% was influenced by other factors beyond the scope of this study Theoretically, the findings support B. F. Skinner's reinforcement theory, which emphasizes the importance of reinforcement in shaping learning behavior, In practice, the results may serve as a reference for teachers and schools in implementing fair, consistent, and educationally effective systems of Rewards and sanctions to enhance students' learning motivation
