Abstract

This research investigates the relationships of fintech utilization and financial literacy with the continuity of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), while examining financial performance as the intervening mechanism. The empirical setting is Seberida District in Indragiri Hulu Regency, an area where rural and peri-urban enterprises display unequal levels of digital adoption, rely heavily on daily liquidity, and often maintain limited accounting records. Data obtained from 245 MSME owners or managers through an explanatory quantitative survey were evaluated with PLS-SEM. The estimates indicate positive links between both antecedent variables and financial performance as well as business sustainability. Among the predictors, financial literacy produced the largest association with financial performance (beta = 0.696, p < 0.001), highlighting the relevance of budgeting, profit determination, risk evaluation, and informed financial judgment. The model accounted for 70.1% of the variance in business sustainability. Financial performance transmitted part of the influence of fintech on sustainability (indirect effect = 0.113, p < 0.001) and part of the influence of financial literacy on sustainability (indirect effect = 0.449, p < 0.001). These results represent theory-guided predictive associations, not definitive causal evidence, because the observations were collected cross-sectionally within a single district.
