Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the process of optimizing religious tourism by the North Tapanuli Regency government in 2023. After the Covid-19 pandemic began to subside, the government sought to revive the tourism sector by developing tourism facility infrastructure with the hope of increasing tourist visits from various regions, both domestic and international tourists. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive approach and historical excavation of objects using triangulation data collection methods. Christian Religious Tourism in North Tapanuli Regency began with the presence of missionaries who left their homeland, including Samuel Munson, Hendri Lyman, and I.L. Nommensen, who ignored all comforts to bring the Gospel to the Batak people in Tapanuli. Several religious tourism destinations in North Tapanuli include the Siatas Barita Love Cross, Munson and Lyman's Tomb in Adiankoting District, the HKBP Central Office Area, the Nommensen Monument Area, the Tomb of Reverend Johannes Siregar, the Tomb of Reverend Johansen, the Taber Hill Area, the Saitnihuta Church and Sipaholon Seminary Area, the Onan Sitahuru Saitnihuta Area, the Muslim Village in Pahae Jae and Purbatua, and the Parmalim Site in Muara. By involving the tourism pentahelix, namely ABCGM (Academic, Business, Community, Government, Media), efforts to accelerate the development of tourism in North Tapanuli are more optimal.
