Double land certificates constitute a significant land dispute because they reveal tension between administrative certainty generated by land registration and the possibility of errors or inconsistencies in the issuance of certificates. In this context, Supreme Court Jurisprudence Number 5/Yur/Pdt/2018 is important because it establishes that, where two certificates concern the same land object, the certificate issued earlier in principle has stronger evidentiary value. This study examines the legal position and application of the jurisprudence in providing legal certainty and assesses its consistency with the Indonesian land registration system. This normative legal research employs statutory, case, and conceptual approaches. Primary legal materials consist of legislation and judicial decisions, particularly Bandung District Court Decision Number 336/Pdt.G/2013/PN.Bdg, Bandung High Court Decision Number 399/PDT/2014/PT.BDG, Supreme Court Decision Number 976 K/PDT/2015, Supreme Court Decision Number 1318 K/Pdt/2017, and Jambi High Court Decision Number 31/Pdt/2020/PT.JMB. The findings demonstrate that Supreme Court Jurisprudence Number 5/Yur/Pdt/2018 functions as a corrective instrument addressing the normative gap concerning conflicts between two certificates over the same land object. The priority given to the earlier-issued certificate may strengthen administrative certainty, but it cannot be applied mechanically because the Indonesian land registration system does not treat a certificate as absolute proof. The validity of physical and juridical data, the legality of the registration process, and the good faith of the rights holder must also be examined. Decision Number 31/Pdt/2020/PT.JMB demonstrates that judges retain room to depart from the jurisprudence where legally relevant circumstances, particularly inconsistencies in the physical and juridical data, are established. Nevertheless, inconsistent application without a coherent legal justification may generate judicial disparity and undermine legal certainty. This study contributes to the conceptual relationship between registration priority, the negative publication system with positive elements, and judicial independence in resolving double land certificate disputes.
