Abstract

The development of aviation navigation technology requires laboratory support systems that are efficient, accessible, and able to reduce component identification errors. The DVOR/ILS Laboratory of Medan Aviation Polytechnic still uses conventional cable labels that provide limited information. This condition can complicate cable identification, especially during practical activities, maintenance, and troubleshooting. This final project aims to design and implement an NFC-based smart cable labeling system as a digital cable identification medium. The system was designed using NTAG213 NFC Tags, an NFC-enabled smartphone, the NFC Tools application, an HTML and CSS-based website, and GitHub Pages as the publication platform. The system was applied to 50 cables in the DVOR/ILS Laboratory. Each NFC Tag stores a website address containing cable information, including cable name, function, input, output, and technical specifications. The test results show that the NFC Tag can be read at a distance of 0.5 cm to 4.0 cm, with an average successful reading distance of 2.25 cm. The average system response time is 0.76 seconds. These results indicate that the system can support faster, more practical, and more informative cable identification

Abstract

A birdstrike deterrent is an aviation safety support device used to repel birds from airport operational areas in order to minimize the risk of bird strikes. The reliability of this equipment depends on its operational conditions; therefore, a monitoring system is required to continuously observe its performance. This study aims to design and implement an ESP32-based monitoring system prototype capable of monitoring voltage, current, and sound intensity as indicators of the operational condition of the birdstrike deterrent. The system consists of an ESP32 microcontroller, an INA219 current sensor, a voltage sensor, a KY-037 sound sensor, a 20×4 LCD, and a buzzer. The research stages included hardware design, software development, system implementation, sensor accuracy testing by comparing sensor readings with standard measuring instruments, and system response testing based on predetermined threshold values. The test results indicate that the system is capable of measuring voltage, current, and sound intensity in real time, displaying monitoring information on the LCD, and activating the buzzer whenever any monitored parameter falls below the predefined threshold. Therefore, the developed prototype successfully performs the monitoring function of the birdstrike deterrent's operational condition and can serve as an alternative solution to support the maintenance of safety aviation support facilities.

Abstract

The presence of birds in airport runway areas poses a threat to flight safety during both take off and landing, as it may result in bird strike incidents. At Yogyakarta International Airport, bird control is carried out through manual patrols using operational vehicles equipped with speakers that broadcast predator sounds. However, this method is time-consuming and may become less effective under adverse weather conditions. Therefore, an automated bird-deterrent system is needed to assist airport personnel in reducing the risk of bird strikes. This final project aims to design and develop a bird-deterrent prototype based on an ESP32 microcontroller and Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors using predator audio as the output. The prototype utilizes four PIR sensors for motion detection, an ESP32 as the main controller, a relay as an electronic switch, an MP3 player module for audio playback, a TDA2030 amplifier to amplify the audio signal, a speaker as the audio output, and an LCD to display the system status. When the PIR sensors detect motion, the ESP32 processes the input signal and activates the relay, allowing the MP3 player to play predator sounds through the speakers amplified by the TDA2030 amplifier. The results show that the prototype was successfully designed and tested through limited-scale simulations in accordance with the research objectives. The PIR sensors were able to detect motion within a maximum range of 4.5 meters and transmit the signal to the ESP32, enabling the relay to be controlled automatically. Testing and simulation results confirmed that the hardware and software were successfully integrated and operated according to the system design. The developed prototype can serve as an alternative solution to the problems identified in this study and may be further developed for future implementation by airport authorities
