Abstract

School buildings are essential facilities that support the quality of education. As buildings age and are subjected to environmental influences, building components may suffer damage that could potentially compromise safety, comfort and functionality. An analysis was carried out on seven buildings at SMPN 5 Curup, Rejang Lebong Regency, to determine the extent of damage requiring maintenance based on the severity of the damage. The analysis was carried out using a quantity-based approach, with damage levels weighted according to the results of visual inspections of the building components. Weights were assigned to each structural and architectural element in accordance with the Ministry of Education and Culture’s 2022 guidelines, based on Ministry of Public Works Regulation No. 24/PRT/M/2008. The resulting damage percentages determined the priority for renovating the buildings at SMPN 5 Curup, Rejang Lebong Regency. The analysis results indicate that the level of building damage varies. Buildings 1 and 7 fall into the severely damaged category with damage percentages of 73.17% and 50.08% respectively, thus requiring revitalisation. Building 2 falls into the moderately damaged category with a damage percentage of 30.13%, whilst Buildings 3–6 are classified as slightly damaged with damage percentages ranging from 16.54% to 24.32%. The dominant damage was found in the walls, ceilings and window frames. These findings indicate that some schools still require attention from local authorities to improve the quality of local education.
