Abstract

The implementation of norms in daily life is an important part of character development among elementary school students. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ understanding of norms and encourage their application in daily life. The activity was conducted at SDN 88 Kota Bengkulu with sixth-grade students as participants. The activity consisted of three stages: pre-implementation, implementation, and evaluation. The activities were carried out face-to-face using an interactive approach through material presentation, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, examples of daily behavior, and a joint pledge entitled “I Am a Child Who Obeys Norms.” The materials covered the definition of norms, religious norms, moral norms, etiquette norms, and legal norms, as well as examples of their application at home, school, and in the community. Evaluation was conducted through observation, oral questions, and coordination with the classroom teacher. A total of 25 students were randomly selected to answer questions to assess their understanding after the activity. The results showed that most students were able to explain the definition of norms, identify the types of norms, and provide examples of their application in daily life. Students also showed good participation during discussions and question-and-answer sessions. Based on coordination with the classroom teacher, several positive behavioral changes began to appear among some students, such as improved waste disposal habits and more polite communication. However, these changes are still considered initial indications; therefore, continuous reinforcement and monitoring are needed to develop the application of norms into daily habits.
