Abstract

The development of technology makes it important to introduce basic computer knowledge at the elementary school level so that children have the skills needed to use technology for learning purposes. At SDN 88 Bentiring Permai, some sixth-grade students still had difficulty identifying the names and functions of various hardware components used in computer operation. This community service activity aimed to provide students with a basic understanding of computer hardware as an initial step toward developing digital literacy. The activity was conducted on August 10, 11, and 14, 2026, involving 26 students. The material was delivered through explanations, demonstrations, question-and-answer sessions, and simple hands-on activities by directly showing the form and function of each component. The materials covered monitors, keyboards, mice, CPUs, printers, and several other supporting devices. Students' understanding was assessed through observations during the activities and an evaluation conducted after the material was delivered. The evaluation showed that 7 out of 26 students, or 27%, were able to correctly identify the names of computer hardware components, 6 students, or 23%, were able to explain their functions, and 4 students, or 15%, were able to distinguish several components based on their uses. The students also showed interest through active participation in asking questions and identifying the components presented. These results indicate that direct learning activities can help provide students with basic knowledge of technology while supporting the development of digital literacy from an early age.
