Abstract

This study aimed to develop, validate, and evaluate the effectiveness of the STEM-based Science Adventure digital comic as a learning medium for Grade VI elementary school students. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, consisting of five phases: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The subjects were all 19 Grade VI students at UPT SD Negeri Sumber 02, Blitar Regency. A small-scale trial was initially conducted with four students purposively selected based on differences in academic ability. Data were collected using two main instruments: a Likert-scale validation questionnaire assessed by three experts in language, media, and subject matter, and a multiple-choice achievement test administered as a pretest and posttest. Validation data were analyzed using percentage scores, while learning gains were measured using normalized N-Gain scores. The results revealed three main findings. First, the digital comic was systematically developed through all ADDIE stages. Second, it achieved a feasible qualification with an overall validity score of 78.3%, comprising 74% from the language expert (valid), 87% from the media expert (very valid), and 74% from the subject-matter expert (valid). Third, the medium was effective in improving students’ conceptual understanding, as shown by the increase in mean scores from 68.7 on the pretest to 86.6 on the posttest, 100% mastery of the minimum competency criterion, and a mean N-Gain score of 0.59, categorized as moderate.
