Abstract

This study aimed to describe the contribution of the principal to improving teacher performance at SDN 148 Palembang. A qualitative approach with a descriptive design was employed. The participants consisted of the principal and teachers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the principal made a significant contribution to improving teacher performance through the roles of mentor, supervisor, motivator, and facilitator. The strategies implemented included teacher mentoring, academic supervision, motivational support, and professional development. These efforts contributed to improvements in teacher discipline, instructional preparedness, and the quality of the teaching and learning process. The findings suggest that effective principal leadership plays an important role in strengthening teacher performance and improving the quality of elementary education. Therefore, principals should consistently optimize their leadership functions through systematic supervision, continuous professional development, and motivational support to create a supportive school environment that encourages teachers to perform effectively and improve the quality of learning.
