Abstract

Students are in a transitional phase facing career uncertainty and increasingly fierce job competition. In overcoming problems during this transitional phase, final-year students prepare their ability to adapt, one of which is through career adaptability. The senior students in the FTI who participated in this study demonstrated career adaptability to face the dynamics of the job market. This study aims to identify the role of career adaptability on self-perceived employability among final-year students of the Faculty of Information Technology. Career adaptability is measured using the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS) developed by Savickas and Porfeli (2012), while self-perceived employability is measured using the Self-Perceived Employability Scale (SPES) by Rothwell et al. (2008). This study used a quantitative research method with 160 final year FTI students in Indonesia as participants. Research participants were obtained through the distribution of online questionnaires using Google Forms. The data were analyzed using simple regression analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that career adaptability has a positive and significant role in self-perceived employability. The R Square value of 0.374 shows that career adaptability plays a role in explaining 37.4% of self-perceived employability. These results indicate that the greater the career adaptability of final-year FTI students, the higher their self-perceived employability. Based on these results, final-year FTI students are advised to be more proactive in preparing for their future careers and career planning. Educators are expected to help students prepare themselves by conducting socialization and providing direct experience.
