Abstract

Cyberbullying has become an increasingly serious problem among adolescents who actively use social media and is closely linked to various negative psychological outcomes. This study aimed to identify and synthesize the psychological impact of cyberbullying on adolescent social media users. A literature review was conducted by searching four electronic databases (Google Scholar, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and PubMed) using article selection guided by the PRISMA 2020 flow. Of the 50 articles identified, 15 articles published between 2021 and 2026 that met the inclusion criteria were included and analyzed thematically. The findings were grouped into four themes: emotional impact (anxiety, depression, stress, and self-harm ideation), cognitive and academic impact (lower self-concept, learning motivation, and concentration), behavioral and psychosocial impact (social withdrawal, sleep and eating disturbances, psychosomatic symptoms, and social media addiction), and factors influencing the severity of the impact (self-esteem, emotion regulation, family and peer support, and digital literacy). The pattern was consistent across Indonesian and international studies, indicating that the psychological impact of cyberbullying on adolescents is multidimensional. Collaborative prevention involving families, schools, and health workers, including nurses, is therefore needed.
