Abstract

This community service program aims to optimize greening efforts in Kampung Tanjung Arang, Kuala Sempang Village, an area that has experienced a reduction in green open spaces due to land conversion for agriculture and settlements. The initiative is designed to raise community awareness regarding the importance of environmental sustainability while delivering ecological, social, and economic benefits. A descriptive qualitative method employing a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach was used, involving observation, documentation, and the active participation of students, community members, and village officials. The greening program was implemented systematically, encompassing coordination with the village government and the Watershed Management Agency (BPDAS)-which supplied the seedlings-as well as land preparation and a collaborative tree-planting event. A total of 50 "honey guava" (jambu madu) seedlings and one durian seedling were successfully planted in the Tanjung Arang tourism area. The results demonstrate improved environmental quality through the expansion of green spaces, enhanced air quality, and soil protection. Socially, community awareness and solidarity regarding greening efforts increased, while economically, the initiative created opportunities to utilize the guava fruit as a source of income and a tourism attraction. This program demonstrates that greening is not merely an ecological endeavor but also a strategic investment for sustainable village development.
