Abstract

This study analyzes the Maanta Galeh tradition in Sutera District as a socio-economic practice driven by Minangkabau women's agency. Utilizing a qualitative case study method, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. Etymologically, the word galeh (glass) undergoes a linguistic metaphor into business capital, while maanta reflects communal support. This tradition undergoes a dual transformation: a shift from sacred rites to adaptive practice, and a material change from glassware to functional electronics and cash capital. Bundo Kanduang acts as the primary agency organizing capital and enhancing women's bargaining power. The novelty proves that material flexibility does not erode traditional values, but serves as a cultural adaptation strategy for micro-economic empowerment. Implication points toward strengthening Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1, 5, 8) and traditional-government synergies in kinship-based micro-enterprises.
