Abstract

Early detection of health risks among pregnant women and children under five requires competent community health cadres supported by effective recording and reporting systems. In Mangli Village, Kuwarasan District, Kebumen Regency, Posyandu cadres faced limitations in risk detection, digital maternal and child health recording, and the use of screening results for follow-up actions. This community engagement program aimed to strengthen cadre capacity through the implementation of SIMARINA (Information System for Early Detection of Risks in Pregnant Women and Children Under Five). The program employed a participatory approach consisting of socialization, training, hands-on application practice, mentoring, implementation during Posyandu activities, and monitoring and evaluation. The participants were 10 Posyandu Melati cadres in Mangli Village. Training covered maternal and child risk detection, data entry, risk screening, interpretation of results, digital documentation, and follow-up actions. The results showed that 100% of cadres met the post-test passing criteria, all active cadres were able to use the application, and 80% of targeted pregnant women and children under five had documented risk status in the application. SIMARINA also shifted recording practices from manual to digital and strengthened the pathway of early detection, documentation, education, coordination, and follow-up. SIMARINA has potential as an appropriate technology to strengthen cadre empowerment and community-based maternal and child health monitoring.
