Abstract

Wayang Sukuraga is a traditional puppet art native to Sukabumi, West Java, in which every character represents a body part and carries a distinct moral message. This study aims to describe the concept and characteristics of Wayang Sukuraga, identify its embedded social values, examine its implementation as a medium for teaching social values in elementary school, and explore a teacher's response. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with semi-structured interviews with its creator and a teacher informant, observation, and documentation, analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana and interpreted through character education, social-emotional learning, and cultural literacy. The eyes represent honesty, the ears empathy, the mouth honesty in speech and responsibility, the nose self-control, the hands cooperation and care, and the feet courage, unified by tolerance and social responsibility. The six characters can be read as a moral sequence from perceiving and feeling to acting. According to the teacher, Wayang Sukuraga is relevant to classroom bullying and was implemented through storytelling and simple puppet-making that students reportedly received positively. Wayang Sukuraga shows potential as a contextual, meaningful medium for cultivating honesty, responsibility, tolerance, and self-control among elementary school students, while preserving local cultural wisdom.
