Abstract

The development of social media has changed the way people communicate, including on the platform X, giving rise to various language errors that have rarely been examined in depth from the perspective of their underlying causes. This study aims to describe the forms of language errors and analyze the factors underlying them in social media comments on X account @tempodotco through a psycholinguistic approach. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data consisting of user comments and replies on a post about President Prabowo Subianto's speech during his working visit to Nganjuk, analyzed using a language error classification covering the phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic levels, and linked to the stages of language production, namely conceptualization, formulation, articulation, and monitoring. The results show that phonological errors are related to disruptions at the articulation stage, morphological and syntactic errors to disruptions at the formulation stage, and semantic errors to disruptions at the conceptualization stage, while disruptions at the monitoring stage are cross-categorical and reinforce the emergence of all these error types. These findings confirm that language errors in digital communication spaces are not random deviations, but rather a systematic reflection of disruptions in the mental process of language production, while also addressing the gap in previous research that had not linked forms of language errors to their underlying causes. This study is limited to comment data from a single post, so it's more of a case study and doesn't yet represent the general language error patterns across all comments on the @tempodotco account.
