Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has transformed many areas, particularly the creative sector, enabling the production of increasingly complex and diverse creative works. While AI offers significant convenience, it also threatens individual copyright interests by aggregating information indiscriminately based on user needs. Despite its benefits, this advancement poses major challenges for copyright protection; because AI-generated works are often produced through randomized processes, identifying the copyright holder becomes difficult. In Indonesia, Law No. 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright governs the protection of creative works but does not clearly address the status of works created by machines or AI. Given the high risk of plagiarism associated with AI, this issue presents a serious threat to copyright law enforcement. This research aims to investigate copyright issues related to AI-generated works and assess the effectiveness of existing legal protections in the digital era. This study employs a normative research method with a literature-based approach, analyzing relevant regulations and comparing them with pertinent copyright cases in Indonesia, specifically those involving AI. A literature review will also be used to gather data and insights regarding the issues at hand. The selection of this topic is driven by the need to examine the legal challenges likely to arise as AI continues to generate more creative works, and to provide recommendations on how Indonesian copyright law should evolve to keep pace with technological advancements. The research will propose revisions or amendments to the Copyright Law to better accommodate AI progress and suggest adaptive mechanisms for copyright protection in the digital era.Ultimately, this study aims to contribute to the advancement of copyright law in Indonesia, ensuring its continued relevance amidst technological progress and addressing the new legal complexities emerging at the intersection of AI and copyright.
