Abstract

Chronic kidney disease is a progressive kidney dysfunction that requires hemodialysis therapy. One of the important factors in the success of therapy is patient adherence to fluid restriction. This adherence is influenced by various factors, including self-efficacy and patients' knowledge about fluid restriction. A preliminary study at Dr. Sitanal a General Hospital showed that there were still patients who were not adherent to fluid restriction, thus research is needed regarding the relationship between self-efficacy and knowledge with adherence to fluid restriction in hemodialysis patients. Objective: To determine the relationship between self-efficacy and knowledge with adherence to fluid restriction in hemodialysis patients in the Hemodialysis Room of Dr. Sitanal a General Hospital. Method: This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample was 88 respondents based on the Slovin formula calculation with a 5% error rate, but the respondents involved in the study were 87 people because one patient was unwilling to participate. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling technique. Benefit: The results of this study are expected to provide information regarding the relationship between self-efficacy and knowledge with adherence to fluid restriction so that it can serve as a basis for developing educational programs to improve hemodialysis patients' adherence. Research Results: The results showed that out of 87 respondents, the majority had high self-efficacy as many as 28 respondents (32.2%), good knowledge as many as 23 respondents (26.4%), and adhered to fluid restriction as many as 57 respondents (65.5%). The results of the Spearman Rank test showed that there was a relationship between self-efficacy and adherence to fluid restriction with an r value = 0.564 and p-value = 0.000, and there was a relationship between knowledge and adherence to fluid restriction with an r value = 0.506 and p-value = 0.000. Conclusion: The higher the self-efficacy and the better the patient's knowledge, the better the adherence to fluid restriction.
