Abstract

Indonesia’s halal economy ranked third in the 2024/25 Global Islamic Economy Indicator and fourth in 2025/26, while halal transactions increasingly take place on digital marketplaces whose sharia governance remains uneven. Using a systematic literature review (SLR) guided by PRISMA 2020, complemented by official contextual data, this article examines how fiqh muamalah literacy the ability to assess the validity of electronic contracts, the prohibition of gharar, riba, and tadlis, khiyar rights, and the credibility of halal claims may shape Muslim consumer trust in digital marketplaces. The synthesis shows that existing studies mostly measure halal (product) literacy or awareness; that studies of digital fiqh literacy are few, small-scale, and qualitative; and that no reviewed study directly tests the relationship between fiqh muamalah literacy and consumer trust. The article therefore formulates five testable propositions linking literacy to cognitive, affective, and conative trust, and discusses the gap between high self-reported religiosity and low sharia-related literacy indicators, noting that the evidence on this gap is mixed. Implications for ummah economic empowerment are presented as conditional pathways rather than established effects. The article recommends applied digital muamalah education, layered halal verification on platforms, and the use of Islamic social finance, and sets out a research agenda for empirical testing.
