Abstract

Background – Nurses are a key component of quality healthcare services, but workload imbalances contribute to high turnover rates, especially in the early stages of practice. Reality shock and transition shock in new nurses increase the risk of intention to leave. This study aims to examine various interventions for new nurse retention and the potential for technology integration into monitoring systems. Methods – This study employed a literature review design, searching PubMed, ScienceDirect, and ProQuest databases using the PRISMA procedure. Inclusion criteria included original English-language research articles within the last five years. Results – Nine articles were selected for synthesis. Transition programs such as the Transition to Practice (TTP) and the Nurse Residency Program (NRP) have been shown to be effective in reducing turnover rates from 46% to 5.1%. The success of these programs relies heavily on ongoing mentorship. However, conventional evaluations are periodic and cannot capture nurses' condition in real time. Conclusion – Integration between transition programs and digital monitoring systems is necessary for early detection of burnout risk. Digital platform innovations such as have the potential to improve retention through data-driven decision-making.
