Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period in the formation of self-identity, as described in Erik Erikson's psychosocial theory at the identity vs. role confusion stage, a period in which individuals strive to recognize their values, roles, and life goals. An unresolved identity crisis may affect adolescents' psychological and social well-being. This study aimed to describe adolescents' psychosocial development screening related to self-identity formation based on Erik Erikson's psychosocial development theory. A descriptive quantitative design was used, with a population of 34 adolescents aged 12–21 years at SMP Nusantara 2 Gubug. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with a 5% margin of error. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire consisting of 21 statement items. The results showed that most respondents (58.8%) had a moderate level of understanding of self-identity formation, 38.2% had a high level, and 2.9% had a low level. These findings indicate that most adolescents are still in the process of searching for and forming an identity that has not yet fully matured, consistent with the identity vs. role confusion stage in Erikson's theory. Continuous psychosocial support from families, schools, and social environments is needed to help adolescents resolve identity crises in a healthy manner.
