Abstract

Nursing students face various academic, laboratory, and clinical practice demands that may increase their risk of academic burnout. One factor potentially associated with this condition is peer support. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between peer support and academic burnout among nursing students through a literature review. The literature was obtained from studies examining social support, peer support, academic burnout, nursing student engagement, and related academic factors among nursing students. The findings indicate that social support has a negative relationship with academic burnout. Studies by Damayanti et al. (2025) and Amiliya and Harningtyas (2026) showed that students with stronger social support tended to have lower levels of academic burnout. Other studies demonstrated that academic burnout was also associated with nursing student engagement and academic procrastination, indicating that burnout is influenced by multiple factors. Based on the literature synthesis, social support is one resource that may help students cope with academic demands. However, most existing studies discuss social support in general and do not specifically examine peer support. Therefore, further research is needed to investigate the specific relationship between peer support and academic burnout among nursing students.
