Abstract

Despite extensive research on the determinants of employee performance, empirical evidence on how job satisfaction mediates the effects of job training and compensation remains inconsistent, particularly within the restaurant and culinary sector. This study addresses that gap by examining the effects of job training and compensation on employee performance, with job satisfaction as a mediating variable. The study employed a quantitative approach, with a sample of 120 employees working at Resto Ocean Garden in Malang. Data were analysed using SmartPLS 4. The results show that job training and compensation have a positive and significant effect on both employee performance and job satisfaction. Job satisfaction was also found to have a positive and significant effect on employee performance. In the indirect-effects analysis, job satisfaction was found to significantly mediate the effects of job training and compensation on employee performance. These results indicate that job satisfaction serves as a mechanism that strengthens the impact of job training and compensation on employee performance. The findings contribute to the human resource management literature by clarifying the mediating role of job satisfaction in the training-compensation-performance relationship within the restaurant industry. From a practical perspective, the findings provide a basis for company management in designing effective training programmes and compensation systems to enhance job satisfaction and employee performance.
