Abstract

This study aims to analyse the effect of short-distance sprint training on movement speed in volleyball and to examine the relationship between 30-metre sprint ability and movement speed in volleyball. The study employed a quantitative approach using quasi-experimental and correlational methods. The research design utilised was a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample comprised 30 volleyball athletes selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments included a volleyball movement speed test and a 30-metre sprint test. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, a paired-sample t-test, and Pearson’s product-moment correlation. The results of the study indicate that short-distance sprint training has a significant effect on improving volleyball movement speed (t = 8.92; p < 0.05) and 30-metre sprint ability (t = 7.85; p < 0.05). Furthermore, there was a strong and significant relationship between volleyball movement speed and 30-metre sprint ability (r = 0.76; p < 0.05). The novelty of this study lies in testing the interoperability of sprint training between athletics and volleyball. Consequently, short-distance sprint training can be recommended as an effective training method to improve the performance of volleyball athletes.
