Abstract

The smash is one of the primary attacking techniques in volleyball that requires optimal coordination, muscle strength, explosive power, and accuracy. A common problem encountered in school volleyball extracurricular activities is poor smashing ability due to conventional training methods and a lack of variety in training equipment. This study aims to analyze the effect of hitting-block training using elastic rubber on the smash ability of male students in the volleyball extracurricular program at SMK Diponegoro Cipari. The study employed a quantitative approach with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest experimental design. The sample consisted of 10 male students selected using purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using a volleyball smash ability test during the pretest and posttest. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, and hypothesis testing using a Paired Samples t-test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the mean smash ability score increased from 15.10 to 19.10, representing an increase of 4.00 points. The results of the normality test indicate that the data are normally distributed (pretest = 0.441; posttest = 0.055), while the results of the paired samples t-test yielded a t-value of -7.171 with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that hitting block training using elastic rubber bands has a significant effect on improving students’ smash ability. The novelty of this study lies in the application of elastic rubber as functional resistance in hitting block drills, which simultaneously develops arm explosive power, movement coordination, and the quality of smash technique in high school-level extracurricular volleyball training. These findings provide a simple, economical, easy-to-implement, and scientifically evidence-based alternative training model for physical education teachers and volleyball coaches.
