Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors contributing to violence within the University of Tadulako from a criminological perspective, as well as to examine the prevention and management measures implemented by the university. The phenomenon of violence in higher education is a complex issue, as it involves various forms of violence, such as physical, sexual, and psychological violence; bullying; discrimination; and intolerance, which impact the safety and comfort of the academic environment. The research method used is empirical legal research with a qualitative descriptive approach. Primary data was obtained through observation, interviews, and the distribution of questionnaires to 200 respondents comprising students, lecturers, and educational staff at Tadulako University. The research findings indicate that the main factors contributing to violence at Tadulako University include poor self-control and emotional regulation, a campus environment that is not yet entirely safe, the influence of negative peer groups, unequal power dynamics, and the influence of social media. The mitigation efforts undertaken include pre-emptive measures through strengthening campus governance, preventive measures in the form of education and awareness-raising on violence prevention, and repressive measures through the imposition of administrative sanctions on perpetrators. In conclusion, violence at Tadulako University is influenced by interrelated internal and external factors. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen prevention systems, enhance education on an ongoing basis, and apply stricter sanctions in order to create a safe, inclusive, and violence-free higher education environment.
