Abstract

The incineration of waste produces exhaust gases containing dust particles, necessitating an effective control system to reduce air pollution. One applicable technology is the dry scrubber, which operates based on the principle of airflow without a liquid medium. This study aims to analyze the distribution of air and particles in a dry scrubber using the Computational Fluid Dynamics method with the Discrete Phase Model approach. Simulations were performed using ANSYS FLUENT 2023 R1 with the SST K-ω turbulence model. The fluid used was air with an inlet temperature of 300°C, while the particles were modeled as ash solids with a diameter of 0.0001 m. The inlet velocity variations used were 5 m/s, 10 m/s, and 15 m/s. Analyses were performed on the velocity distribution, pressure distribution, and particle distribution based on particle tracking results. The simulation results show that an increase in inlet velocity causes an increase in net velocity from 3.80 m/s to 11.47 m/s and an increase in pressure drop from 49.44 Pa to 405.23 Pa. The particle capture efficiency obtained was 56.88% at an inlet velocity of 5 m/s, 26.49% at 10 m/s, and 42.86% at 15 m/s. The results of the study indicate that the particle distribution is influenced by the inlet velocity, flow patterns, and the recirculation zone formed inside the dry scrubber. An inlet velocity of 5 m/s yielded the highest particle capture efficiency.
