Abstract

Heavy equipment engines require post-general overhaul functional testing to verify compliance with manufacturer specifications. Observations at a heavy equipment distribution and after-sales service company revealed that the testing process still relies on separate measuring instruments, resulting in longer testing time and increased operator exposure to running engines. This study designed an integrated engine testing device capable of displaying engine speed (RPM), oil pressure, and coolant temperature in real time through a single control panel. The system was developed using Autodesk Inventor for mechanical design and Autodesk Eagle for electrical wiring, followed by manufacturing and functional testing on a wheel loader engine based on the Komatsu shop manual. The test results showed a low idle speed of 820 rpm, a high idle speed of 2240 rpm, an oil pressure of 3.4 bar, and a coolant temperature of 82°C, all within the specified standards. The testing time decreased from 80 to 55 minutes (41.7% improvement), while eliminating manual harness installation and reducing operator exposure to hazardous areas. The proposed device improves the efficiency, accuracy, and safety of post-general overhaul engine testing.
