Abstract

Kidney disease is one of the health conditions that requires accurate diagnosis and proper treatment to prevent more serious complications. At Royal Prima Hospital, the diagnosis process for kidney disease is still performed directly by specialist doctors, resulting in patient queues due to the limited number of available medical personnel. To address this issue, a supporting system is needed to assist in the initial diagnosis process quickly and efficiently. This study aims to design and develop an expert system for kidney disease diagnosis that can assist patients and doctors in identifying diseases based on the symptoms experienced by patients. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method with the Waterfall system development model, which consists of requirements analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and maintenance stages. The system was developed using Visual Basic as the programming language and SQLyog (MySQL) as the database management system. The knowledge base was acquired from medical experts and consists of symptom data, disease data, and diagnostic rules that are processed by the inference engine to generate diagnostic recommendations. The results of the study indicate that the developed expert system is capable of processing symptom data entered by users and providing information regarding possible kidney diseases along with initial treatment recommendations. Based on the testing results, all system functions operated according to the specified requirements. The system can help accelerate the preliminary diagnosis process, reduce patient waiting times, and support doctors in delivering more effective and efficient healthcare services. However, the system serves only as a diagnostic support tool and does not replace the role of physicians in determining the final diagnosis and medical treatment for patients.
