Abstract

Sukodono Village, located in Panceng District, Gresik Regency, possesses significant agricultural potential, including melon greenhouses and mango plantations. However, organic waste from the agricultural sector—such as rotten fruits and plant stems—has not been optimally utilized and is typically discarded as trash. This situation reflects the community’s low awareness of the importance of managing waste based on local potential. Through the 2025 Thematic Community Service Program (KKN-T) by Universitas Negeri Surabaya, a community empowerment initiative was carried out by introducing maggot (Black Soldier Fly) cultivation as an alternative solution for managing organic waste and providing high-quality livestock feed. This activity involved several stages, including educating residents, purchasing maggot eggs, hatching larvae, maggot rearing, and maintaining the life cycle until adult flies emerge. The implementation results showed that maggots can decompose waste into nutritious feed while reducing dependency on conventional animal feed. In addition to economic benefits, the program also raised public awareness of the importance of environmental management. Maggot farming has proven to be a simple, low-cost, and sustainable solution that can serve as a starting point for building an economically independent and environmentally conscious village.
