Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology requires individuals to possess relevant skills to support both educational and professional activities, including juveniles undergoing rehabilitation at the Special Development Institution for Children (LPKA) Class I Palembang. To address this need, the CANVASKILL program was implemented as a graphic design training initiative utilizing the Canva application. This program aimed to enhance the creativity and digital competencies of juvenile inmates, particularly senior high school (Grade XII) students, through theoretical instruction and hands-on practice in designing visual media. The program was carried out through several stages, including observation, coordination with LPKA officials, preparation of training materials, implementation of the training, participant mentoring, and program evaluation. The results indicated that participants were able to understand the basic features of Canva and produce various simple graphic designs based on the training materials. In addition to improving digital competencies, the program encouraged creativity, self-confidence, and the ability to express ideas through visual media. The participants' works were utilized as informational, educational, and learning media within the LPKA environment according to their respective themes and functions. The CANVASKILL program is expected to serve as a sustainable digital skills development initiative that supports the personal development of juvenile inmates and better prepares them for education, employment, and social reintegration after completing their rehabilitation.

Abstract

Property-deposit services in correctional institutions must reconcile security, administrative accuracy, and public confidence. A field assessment at Class III Sarolangun Rawas Correctional Institution identified an information gap: once goods were handed to officers, families had no independently accessible evidence that the items had reached the intended incarcerated person. This community-service program designed BUPENBAR-KEL, a scannable code linked to photographic evidence of handover, and reports it as a service design and prototype rather than as a proven outcome. Implementation followed a descriptive action-oriented approach across nine stages using existing resources: one smartphone, internet access, one digital storage account, printed guidance, and service officers, with a planned budget of IDR 142,000. The article contributes three elements: an explicit causal argument linking accessible photographic evidence to reduced information asymmetry and trust formation through a principal-agent lens; a minimum technical specification that allows replication; and an operational measurement design. Because no pre-post quantitative data were collected, effectiveness is not claimed. Initial observation suggests the design could potentially make service completion verifiable without altering security inspection procedures.
