Abstract

Sleep quality is an important factor influencing physiological conditions, including blood pressure, in patients with diabetes mellitus. Persistent sleep disturbances may trigger sympathetic nervous system activation and increase the risk of cardiovascular complications. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between sleep quality and Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) in patients with diabetes mellitus. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 82 respondents. Sleep quality data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while MAP was calculated based on systolic and diastolic blood pressure measurements. Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation test. The results showed that most respondents had poor sleep quality and elevated MAP values. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between sleep quality and MAP with a correlation coefficient of 0.421 and a p-value < 0.001. The positive direction of the relationship indicates that poorer sleep quality is associated with higher MAP values. These findings suggest that sleep quality plays a role in influencing blood pressure stability in patients with diabetes mellitus. Therefore, interventions aimed at improving sleep quality are necessary as part of comprehensive management to prevent cardiovascular complications.
