Abstract

This study presents a three-year integrated analysis (2022-2024) of coal quality, operational parameters, and flue gas emissions from a fire-tube boiler in a West Java garment industry. Secondary data from certified emission test reports, coal ultimate analysis, and boiler operational history were utilized. Coal analysis revealed sulfur content of 1.08%, ash content of 13.3%, and GCV of 6313 cal/g. Operational parameters (coal consumption, feed water temperature, steam output, steam pressure, flue gas temperature) were correlated with emissions of particulate matter, SO₂, and NO₂. All emission parameters remained below Government Regulation No. 22/2021 quality standards. Boiler thermal efficiency increased from 68.42% to 70.85% in year two, then declined to 69.12% in year three. Particulate emissions decreased significantly from 12.20 mg/m³ in 2022 to 4.86 mg/m³ in 2023 (60.2% reduction), correlating with improved efficiency and steam-to-coal ratio (7.01 to 7.25 kg/kg). SO₂ fluctuated from 112.78 to 72.40 mg/m³, while NO₂ declined consistently from 152.26 to 124.17 mg/m³ (18.4% reduction). Pearson correlation showed significant negative relationship between boiler efficiency and particulate emissions (r =-0.91, p < 0.05).This study provides empirical evidence that integrated operational monitoring and routine maintenance are crucial for achieving environmental compliance and sustainable energy efficiency in the garment sector.
