Abstract

Panjalin Kidul Village in Sumberjaya Subdistrict, Majalengka Regency, faces interrelated challenges in education, environment, and the local economy, including low children's reading interest, unmanaged household waste, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that still lack business legality. This study aims to describe the design, implementation, and outcomes of the Thematic Community Service Program (KKN-T) of Universitas Majalengka carried out from 13 July to 12 August 2026 through a participatory and adaptive approach. The method applied combined field observation, interviews, door-to-door socialization, and hands-on mentoring across four focus areas: literacy education through the Pojok Baca (reading corner) program, character education, environmental management, economic empowerment of MSMEs, and religious-social activities. The main results show that the reading corner program increased children's reading interest and creativity, culminating in a literacy competition and an art performance; the waste management program was adaptively redesigned from an ecobrick concept into a Reduce-Reuse-Recycle Waste Disposal Site (TPS 3R) equipped with a simple incinerator, which was successfully built and inaugurated with multi-stakeholder support; and the MSME mentoring program succeeded in issuing Business Identification Numbers (NIB), strengthening product branding, and obtaining halal certification for five local businesses. These findings indicate that a participatory and adaptive approach is key to the success of community service programs, positioning students not merely as program implementers but as learning facilitators for the community in addressing rural development challenges.
