Abstract

Poverty is a complex and multidimensional issue, particularly in Indonesia's underdeveloped regions. This study focuses on poverty vulnerability, defined as the risk of a household falling into poverty due to social, economic, or environmental shocks. Utilizing data from 26 underdeveloped districts, this research identifies determinant factors such as access to clean water, lighting, education, infrastructure, and geographical conditions. Discriminant analysis is applied to evaluate the contribution of these variables in predicting poverty vulnerability. The results indicate that nearly half of the underdeveloped regions are in a state of high vulnerability, caused by development inequality, lack of infrastructure, and low quality of human resources. This study emphasizes the importance of more inclusive policies to improve access to basic services and infrastructure in underdeveloped regions to reduce vulnerability to poverty and achieve sustainable development targets. These findings provide critical insights for designing more targeted policy interventions in alleviating poverty in Indonesia's underdeveloped areas.
