Abstract

This study examines the effect of Generation Z work style on employee performance, with work motivation as an intervening variable at PT Citra Mandiri Kencana Pet Food. A quantitative associative approach and a cross-sectional design were applied. All 15 Generation Z employees in the marketing, sales, and operations and production divisions participated through saturated sampling. Likert-scale questionnaire data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, validity and reliability tests, regression diagnostics, path analysis, and the Sobel test. All 30 items were valid, while Cronbach's alpha was 0.966 for work style, 0.964 for motivation, and 0.989 for performance. Work style had a positive and significant effect on motivation (β = 0.969; p < 0.001; R² = 0.939). Work style and motivation jointly explained employee performance (F = 48.343; p < 0.001; R² = 0.890); however, the direct effects of work style (β = 0.378; p = 0.352) and motivation (β = 0.572; p = 0.168) were not significant. The indirect effect of 0.555 was also not significant according to the Sobel test (p = 0.144). Therefore, work motivation was not empirically supported as a mediator. These findings should be interpreted cautiously because of the small sample, non-normality in part of the composite scores, and severe multicollinearity (VIF = 16.521).
