Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the syntactic functions found in the text of the Indonesian Declaration of Independence. The analysis was carried out by identifying the syntactic elements that make up each sentence and explaining the function of each element in constructing the overall meaning of the text. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method. The qualitative descriptive method was chosen because the study aims to describe and analyze the syntactic functions found in the text of the Indonesian Declaration of Independence without using statistical calculations. The results of the analysis show that in the Text of the Indonesian Declaration of Independence, there are syntactic functions in the form of subject (S), predicate (P), object (O), and adverbial (KET), while the complement (PEL) function was not found. In the first sentence, the pattern S + Adverbial + P + O was found, namely “We, the Indonesian people” as the subject, “hereby” as the adverbial, “declare” as the predicate, and “the independence of Indonesia” as the object. This sentence serves as the Indonesian nation’s official declaration of its independence. The conclusion of this study is that the text of the Proclamation has a simple, effective, and communicative syntactic structure. Although it consists of only two main sentences, the text is able to convey the message of independence clearly, firmly, and with profound meaning. Overall, the syntactic functions found in the text of the Proclamation indicate that each element of the sentence plays a mutually supportive role in constructing meaning
