Abstract

Post-Dural Puncture Headache (PDPH) is a complication of spinal anesthesia occurring in patients undergoing cesarean sections. Body Mass Index (BMI) is suspected to be associated with the incidence of PDPH, yet previous studies have yielded inconsistent findings. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between BMI and the incidence of PDPH in patients undergoing cesarean sections with spinal anesthesia at RSI Fatimah Cilacap. An observational analytic quantitative design was employed, with a sample of 48 respondents selected via purposive sampling. BMI data were obtained from medical records, while PDPH incidence was assessed using a questionnaire based on characteristic PDPH symptoms. Data analysis involved univariate and bivariate methods, utilizing the Spearman correlation test. The results showed that the most common BMI category was "normal" (14 respondents; 29.2%), followed by "underweight" (12 respondents; 25.0%), "overweight" (11 respondents; 22.9%), and "obese" (11 respondents; 22.9%). Twenty-three respondents (47.9%) experienced PDPH, while 25 respondents (52.1%) did not. The Spearman test yielded a correlation coefficient of -0.033 with a p-value of 0.826, indicating no significant relationship between BMI and the incidence of PDPH. These findings suggest that BMI is not a factor significantly associated with the incidence of PDPH among the respondents.
