Abstract

The selection of the Intrauterine Device (IUD) among couples of reproductive age is influenced not only by medical considerations but also by gender perspectives in decision-making. This review aimed to analyze factors influencing IUD selection among couples of reproductive age from a gender perspective through a literature review. The study employed a literature review method by analyzing ten scientific articles published between 2022 and 2026 from SINTA 1–5 indexed national journals and Scopus Q1–Q4 international journals. The findings indicate that husband support, couple communication, gender norms, psychosocial factors, knowledge, and the role of healthcare professionals are the primary determinants of IUD decision-making. In addition, social and cultural norms shape the relationship between husbands and wives in contraceptive choices. Therefore, increasing IUD utilization requires gender-responsive strategies through women's empowerment, greater husband involvement, effective couple communication, and strengthened reproductive health education provided by healthcare professionals.
