Abstract

The Meaningful Instructional Design (MID) learning model has been used to support conceptual understanding, but research on its application to Akidah Akhlak in madrasah aliyah remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the effect of implementing MID on students’ conceptual understanding in Akidah Akhlak at MAN 3 Pasaman Barat. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method and a pretest–posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 56 students selected through purposive sampling: 28 students in Class X E5, the experimental class, and 28 students in Class X E4, the control class. Data were collected using a conceptual understanding test consisting of 10 essay questions, then analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, and an independent-samples t test with SPSS 20. The findings showed that the mean posttest score of the experimental class, 85.61, was higher than that of the control class, 75.11. The difference was statistically significant based on a two-tailed test (t(54) = −13.748; p < .001). These findings support the implementation of MID to strengthen students’ conceptual understanding in Akidah Akhlak instruction. This study provides an empirical basis for developing meaningful learning and offers evidence for educators to consider when selecting learning models that support students’ conceptual understanding.
