Abstract

The environmental carrying capacity is the ability of the environment to support human life and other living beings, while the environmental absorption capacity is the ability to absorb substances, energy, or other components that enter it. This research aims to analyze the carrying capacity and absorption capacity of the environment based on ecosystem services for water provision in Kutai Kartanegara Regency. The ecosystem services method is used to calculate the carrying capacity and absorption capacity of the environment using parameters such as landscapes, vegetation types, and land cover. The analysis results show that most of the area falls into the low-class category, with an extent of 1.787.104,66 ha (70,66%). Tabang District dominates the very low class, while high to very high classes are found in parts of Muara Wis, Muara Kaman, and Kenohan districts.
